Beatles' recording engineer pens book

Memoirs by Beatles "insiders" vary widely in quality. Oftentimes, the books are nothing more than an opportunity to get in some cheapshots and earn some cash, offering little in the way of valuable information or insight. Sometimes a person portraying him- or herself as insider had very limited actual interaction with the band.

But "Here, There and Everywhere : My Life Recording the Music of the Beatles," by recording engineer Geoff Emerick should be interesting. Emerick really was an insider. Along with the band's producer George Martin he was truly there, inside Abbey Road studios taking a hand in shaping the group's songs and sound from Revolver through the Abbey Road album.

The book is due out later this week and features a foreward by Elvis Costello
