Remembering Alex Toth

The artist/animator/designer extraordinaire passed away May 27, his son Eric reports.

Toth was one of the greats: Starting out in comics' golden age and helping to revolutionize visual story telling. He did excellent work in pretty much every genre: superheroes, sci-fi, romance, horror and Westerns. As a pioneer, he was right up there with Will Eisner and Jack Kirby. His page design, use of blacks and lettering were all things of beauty. Later, he went on to do animation work, coming up with character designs for the Herculoids, Super Friends and many more. Whether we knew it or not, a lot of us grew up on images that came out of Toth's pen.
