Pop Culture Roundup Oct. 16, 2007

--------------------

One of the most suprising items on DC's solicits list is the Teen Titans Swingin' Elseworlds Special. Comics fans may recall this was supposed to appear way back in 2003 but was torpedoed by DC execs who felt Bob Haney's script was "too weird" (Zany Haney, oldsters will remember, created the original Teen Titans back in the 1960s). Apparently, there's been a change of heart, of which I'm glad. As, not only does the one-shot have the Haney script, but also art by the great Jay Stephens and Mike Allred all under a cover by the fabulous Nick Cardy, who drew the Titans back in Haney's heyday.

Should be lots of silly, swingin' 60s-style fun. And, if that's "too weird," bring it on...

Also, on the DC solicits front again, artist Mike Ploog will be drawing The Spirit, following on from Darywn Cooke's run. And, as mentioned here earlier, Sergio Aragones and Mark Evanier are doing the scripts. Sounds like an obvious must-read.

Marvel Comics January 2008 solicitations will be posted here later today.

Via Flog: Comics great Marie Severin reportedly suffered a stroke last weekend.

Severin started out as a colorist and later went on to work as an artist for both DC (on Aquaman and other titles) and Marvel (Dr. Strange, Sub-Mariner).

Reruns of "Lost" will air on the Sci Fi Channel next fall.

Sci Fi is planning to "stack" the drama in a weekly four-hour primetime block, possibly on Monday nights, and also has obtained the right to stream a limited number of episodes at SciFi.com.
