Help restore Len Wein's comics collection

Veteran comic book writer Len Wein, the co-creator or Wolverine, Swamp Thing and other creators, lost most of his belongings in a a devastating house fire a few weeks back. Among the things he lost were copies of all the comics he worked on--shelves and shelves of bound volumes.

Thankfully, Len's pal and fellow comics scribe Mark Evanier is providing us all with a way to help Len out. Check out Mark's "Let's Rebuild Len Wein's Comic Book Collection Page" to get involved. At the site, you can peruse a list of what Len lost and learn how to donate a replacement.

Way to go Mark!

  1. I think that it is disgraceful that Mark Evanier would use his position to promote such a worthless cause. It is an example of self-promotion, actually. I don't believe I have ever read about Evanier asking people to donate comics to kids in hospitals or in hospices. That wouldn't be good press I guess. Shame on you for not slapping him in your blog.

  2. "Fat Boy," seriously?

How can you view this action, which I see very much as an act of kindness and humanity as a bad thing?

Is helping out a friend, which Len is to Mark, wrong? What's self promotional about it? Mark was getting lots of e-mails from comics fans asking "hey, how can we help Len?" Other comics-related sites were getting the same question.

Mark stepped up to the plate and should be commended for doing so.

Helping out Len Wein certainly doesn't negate donating comics elsewhere. In my experience, comics fans and creators are some of the most generous folks around. Tell 'em where to send their money/comics and they'll follow through. Perhaps you should create your own site to do so.

But going after Mark for doing a good thing is an example of some severely twisted logic.

I'm proud to give him my tiny plug here on my site and will likewise provide space to promote any other causes I view as worthwhile.
