Coming Up: David Mazzucchelli's Batman Year One Artist's Edition

Order now from Amazon.

An Artist’s Edition featuring the groundbreaking reinterpretation of Batman’s origin by comic book titans Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. The entire groundbreaking story is included in this 14 x 21 inch collection, the same size as most of the pages were drawn.

In 1986, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli produced this groundbreaking reinterpretation of the origin of Batman: who he is and how he came to be. Sometimes careless and naive, this Dark Knight is far from the flawless vigilante he is today. In his first year on the job, Batman feels his way around a Gotham City far darker than the one he left. His solemn vow to extinguish the town’s criminal element is only half the battle. Along with Lieutenant James Gordon, the Dark Knight must also fight a police force more corrupt than the scum in the streets. Batman: Year One stands next to Batman: The Dark Knight Returns on the mantle of greatest Batman graphic novels of all time.

This edition includes the complete graphic novel and a new introduction by David Mazzucchelli. All of Mazzucchelli’s layouts are presented, giving true insight into a master storytellers process from initial spark to completed page. This is an art book featuring rare and beautiful imagery, a collection for connoisseurs of the form. Chip Kidd, the legendary designer, will be guiding the look of the project.

The volume collects Batman #404–407.

From Bill Watterson, bestselling creator of the beloved comic strip Calvin and Hobbes, and John Kascht, one of America’s most renowned caricaturists, comes a mysterious and beautifully illustrated fable about what lies beyond human understanding.

In a fable for grown-ups by cartoonist Bill Watterson, a long-ago kingdom is afflicted with unexplainable calamities. Hoping to end the torment, the king dispatches his knights to discover the source of the mysterious events. Years later, a single battered knight returns.

For the book's illustrations, Watterson and caricaturist John Kascht worked together for several years in unusually close collaboration. Both artists abandoned their past ways of working, inventing images together that neither could anticipate—a mysterious process in its own right.

Journey back to the 1960s with writer Robert Kanigher and artist Ross Andru as they continue their prolific Wonder Woman run. New Comics Collected Editions: Frank Miller - Daredevil Artist Edition, Batman - One Bad Day Box Set, Immortal Hulk Omnibus, More!

Our picks. Click the links to order from Amazon.

Frank Miller helped redefine sequential storytelling in the early 1980s. His style, influenced by Will Eisner’s The Spirit, was new and exciting. One of his earliest issues featured the introduction of Elektra and was the first issue Miller wrote.
This Artist’s Edition features pages from Miller’s earliest beginnings on Daredevil (issues 159, 163, 165), as well as the glory days when Miller began writing the character as well as drawing it, including #168 (the first appearance of the iconic Elektra), as well as his continuing run on issues 169, 171, 172, 174-181 (#181 being the oversized classic "Death of Elektra"), followed by pages from issues 184-191 ( Miller’s final issue). Issues 168 and 181 have many of the most important and compelling sequences in these truly classic and historically important stories. Frank Miller’s Daredevil not only ranks as one of the classic comics of its era, and is a precursor to Miller’s Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, Batman: Year One, Ronin, and Sin City.
Additionally, more than 20 covers, including 17 from Miller’s classic Daredevil run, are included in this volume.

Following his battle with Failsafe, the Dark Knight is transported to a darker, more hopeless Gotham City that never had a Batman and instead has…the Red Mask, brutalizing the population with his army of monsters, including Harvey Dent and Killer Croc. Batman will face the most grueling test yet: fighting a true one-man war to save his city!
    Collects BATMAN #131-135.

It’s a new era for the detective of the night as we introduce award-winning writer Ram V (Catwoman, The Many Deaths of Laila Starr), and artist extraordinaire Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire, Superman/Batman)! Together, they’ll turn Gotham into a tragic yet beautiful gothic opera for our eyes and ears to feast on.
Something is terribly wrong with Batman. No matter the tests Bruce takes, nor the numbers he counts, the greatest detective in the world can’t pin down the source of this creeping dread—of his own inner demons and a looming mortality. Meanwhile, real demons roam the shadows as an ancient melody haunts the Gotham night. As Batman investigates the songs and the demons of Gotham, he is forced to confront the oldest question: Has there has been a demon within him all along? And if so, what does it want…and why hasn’t it taken over yet?
    Collects DETECTIVE COMICS #1062-1065.

Is he man or monster…or is he both? Find out as Al Ewing and Joe Bennett take Bruce Banner to hell and back in the complete, infernal saga of the Immortal Hulk! Every time Bruce dies, he rises again…as the Hulk! And he is being hunted: by the government, by Alpha Flight, by the mysterious Shadow Base, even by the Avengers! But Bruce has even bigger problems. Something terrible has infected him. Something with unspeakable plans for humanity. And the answers lie beyond…the Green Door! Featuring friends and foes both old and new as well as multiple Hulk personas, this horror reinvention of a Marvel icon is like no comic book you have ever read before!

The Riddler. Two-Face. The Penguin. Mr. Freeze. Catwoman. Bane. Clayface. Ra’s al Ghul.
Each villain has their reasons for opposing the Caped Crusader. But were they victims of circumstance who were pushed over the edge, or were they always drawn to darkness?
This complete box set contains all eight Batman – One Bad Day hardcovers plus a special edition of Batman: The Killing Joke by Alan Moore and Brian Bolland featuring the original colors by John Higgins.

Collects Spy Superb #1-3 with brand new cover art in a deluxe hardcover format with gold embossed foil, a ribbon marker, and kraft paper-like dustjacket that hides the book in plain sight. Spy Superb is the latest release from Flux House Books, a new boutique imprint that will feature the writing (and sometimes) art of acclaimed comics creator Matt Kindt, with crime, science fiction, horror, and humor stories, all told and presented in startling and untraditional ways.

In 1988, journalist David Simon was given unprecedented access to the Baltimore Police Department’s homicide unit. Over the next twelve months, he shadowed detectives as they took on a slew of killings in a city where killings were common. Only the most heinous cases stood out–chief amongst them, the rape and murder of eleven-year-old Latonya Wallace.
Originally published in 1991, Simon’s Homicide became the basis for the acclaimed television show Homicide: Life on the Streets and inspired HBO’s The Wire. Now, this true-crime classic is reimagined as a gritty two-part graphic novel series.

John Byrne reinvented Superman and illustrated some of the most famous stories in X-Men history. Much like how Jack Kirby created the Fourth World at DC following his genre-defining career at Marvel, after Byrne's work on multiple pop culture icons, the writer and artist took on the Fourth World himself, as collected in this hardcover omnibus.
While staying faithful to Kirby's original vision, these tales brought characters like Orion, Darkseid, Mr. Miracle, and the Forever People into the 1990s, reviving the epic mythology of New Genesis and Apokolips for a new generation of readers.
This collection also includes Genesis, a team-up between the heroes of Earth--including Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman--and the New Gods of New Genesis against Darkseid, as the Godwave threatens reality!
This volume collects New Gods #12-15, Jack Kirby's Fourth World #1-20, and Genesis #1-4.

This omnibus collects the Phantom Stranger's earliest adventures in the 1950s, his late-1960s revival, and early 1980s stories in the pages of The Saga of the Swamp Thing. Through it all, the Phantom Stranger has remained one of DC's most unique characters, navigating the weird, scary side of the DC Universe!

Just a few short years after co-creating Spider-Man, artist and writer Steve Ditko created the Question, who worked as an investigative journalist in public and a vigilante in secret.
Two decades later, writer Dennis O’Neil and artist Denys Cowan unleashed their acclaimed reinvention of the Question for the late 1980s, coinciding with one of the most creatively thrilling periods in comics. While retaining familiar elements of the character—including his faceless mask—O’Neil and Cowan also imbued Vic Sage with a Zen philosophy and forced him to ask vital questions about his methods employed while fighting crime in the corrupt town of Hub City.
But with deadly martial artist assassins and political intrigue to contend with, will one man—even a master of unarmed combat—be able to make a difference?
This volume collects The Question #1-27, The Question Annual #1, Green Arrow Annual #1, andDetective Comics Annual #1.
