James Bond soundtrack trumpeter Derek Watkins passes away
Derek Watkins, who played trumpet on every James Bond soundtrack from "Dr. No" to "Skyfall" has died at age 68.
Watkins began his career at aged 17 and went on to have a long, varied career where he played with The Beatles, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, and Eric Clapton.

The Beatles - Doctor Who connection
Here's a Fabs story I hadn't heard before: Turns out Paul McCartney nearly collaborated with electronic music pioneer Delia Derbyshire on an arrangement of "Yesterday."
Derbyshire, working in the BBC Radiophonics Workshop, created the original theme to "Doctor Who" back in 1963.

Sir Paul said of their encounter: "I even found out where Miss Derbyshire lived, and went round to visit her. We even went into the hut in the bottom of her garden.
"It was full of tape machines and funny instruments. My plan in meeting her was to do an electronic backing for my song, Yesterday.
"We'd already recorded it with a string quartet, but I wanted to give the arrangement electronic backing."
